Summary/Objective
The Cook position responsibilities include, but are not limited to, preparing multiple meals per day for our residents. Ensuring inventory is up to date, all work spaces are clean and organized, and no cross contamination between food products.
Essential Functions

  1. Preparation and presentation of high quality meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) per the menu and recipes developed by the Executive Chef.
  2. Ability to prepare meats, poultry, fish, vegetables, starches, and any other assigned food item.
  3. Maintaining clean and organized work areas at all times and ensuring no cross contamination of food items.
  4. Demonstrates competency in rotating stock and labeling.
  5. Demonstrates competency in the use of all kitchen equipment in a safe manner.
  6. Maintain proper hygiene during working hours with frequent hand washing.
  7. Follows established facility, personnel, and food service policies.
  8. Responsible for being at work, on time, per the established department schedule and ability to work a flexible schedule to cover for absences within the department.
  9. Maintains a positive attitude and manner in all contact situations; acts as a team member.
  10. Maintains confidentiality in all matters pertaining to patients, staff, and any other information this position may be privy to.
  11. Demonstrates competency in the safety procedures of Nova by passing an exam on such matters, as warranted.
  12. Acts as a representative of Nova at work and in the community by presenting a favorable image of the center to all outside contacts with courteous and tactful behavior towards patients, visitors and other staff.
  13. Dresses in an appropriate manner according to the dress code.
  14. Adheres to all safety rules and regulations established for the facility staff.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional kitchen environment. This role routinely uses standard commercial kitchen equipment.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing. This position requires lifting and/or moving items up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full time position. This position will require working various shifts, including half and double shifts, weekends and holidays.
Travel
This position may travel to other Nova locations in the State of Texas.
Required Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED required. A minimum of 1 year prior experience in a restaurant or institutional setting preparing and presenting meals. Previous inventory, food preparation and portion control is a plus for this position. Must be able to perform all phases of the Food Service Department, including operation of all equipment.
Must be able to follow written guides such as recipes, menus, schedules, and special instructions. Requires ability to operate and clean all food service equipment. Must be able to do simple math and use conversion charts for weights and measures. Requires a knowledge of food characteristics, i.e.: color, taste, consistency, volume, and cooking times.

Qualifications
